Yesterday Susan, myself, the kids, Susan's half-sister Kathi and her husband Seth made the trek from Allentown into Philly for a day of historical and cultural enlightenment. All went well, and we were sufficiently of both enlightened. We also ate Rick's Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches for lunch. However, Kathi pulled the magic rabbit out of her hat with the name and address of Lee How Fook in Chinatown, just a few blocks from the LIberty Bell, et. al. It was by far the best chinese meal I've ever eaten. The opening course of Szechuan Turnip and Shredded Pork Soup set the bar very high, and it didn't get lowered during the rest of the repast. A clear, black-peppery broth, filled with bean sprouts, bits of pickled turnip, pork, we ate every drop. We also had pan-seared dumplings (delicious), shredded pork wih bean curd and mushroom (plat-licking good), and scallop fried rice (don't get me started...incredible). NOT TO BE MISSED. Closed Mondays!
